Venue

Most ScienceWriters2024 sessions will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh. The facility is LEED Silver Certified and located just across the street from the main conference hotel, the Marriott Raleigh City Center. Getting Here

By Air

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is the closest airport to Raleigh, serving an area known as the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina, which comprises Chapel Hill, Durham and Raleigh and other smaller surrounding communities in the area. RDU is less than 20 miles from the Raleigh Convention Center (RCC) or the Raleigh Marriott City Center hotel.

Traveling to and from the airport via bus service is possible through the GoTriangle transit service, which serves the Research Triangle Region. Transit routes and schedules to the airport vary depending on the day and time of travel to RDU. The Trip Planner by GoTriangle can help you determine which route is best for you. You can either use the UMO app or purchase a pass card to purchase fare to use the bus service to or from RDU. A pass is $2.50 with a daily cap of $5. Certain discounts are available.

Ride shares, such as Lyft and Uber, and taxis are also available to travel between RDU and the RCC. You can navigate to the RCC by car using the street address: 500 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. You can navigate to the Raleigh Marriott City Center using the street address: 500 Fayetteville St, Raleigh, NC 27601. An estimated cost for a rideshare from RDU to the RCC or Marriott City Center is approximately $30-50 depending on the day and time of the rideshare. Rideshares including Lyft and Uber are unavailable to be scheduled in advance, and can be requested at the RDU airport.

By Bus

Raleigh can also be reached by bus from outside the GoTriangle Transit system. The greyhound bus line stops in Raleigh. You can check bus travel to Raleigh using Raleigh’s Travel by Bus page.

By Train

Raleigh Union Station is a modern train station located in the warehouse district of downtown Raleigh that provides Amtrak services ranging from Florida to New York. A GoRaleigh bus stop immediately outside the train station provides direct connections to other destinations in Raleigh, such as the RCC. You can plan your trip via Train using Raleigh’s Travel by Train page.

By Car

The RCC is located at 500 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. The closest parking to RCC is on Lenoir Street between Salisbury Street and Fayetteville Street. You can use the parking map to determine the closest parking lot to you. Parking rates are set by McLaurin Parking, and not the RCC.

Getting Around Downtown Raleigh

By Bus

The R-line is a free bus that serves downtown Raleigh. The R-line route stops at the main entrance of the RCC and it runs about every 15 mins 7 am - 2:15 am Thursday - Saturday, 1 pm - 8 pm Sunday, and 7 am - 11 pm Monday-Wednesday.

GoRaleigh Access provides bus transportation service throughout Raleigh for all ADA eligible visitors. Visit GoRaleigh Access for details on using this service, which requires contacting Raleigh’s Paratransit Services Certification Office, 8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday at 919-996-3459.

By Bikes and E-Scooters

Raleigh’s Bikeshare program, Cardinal Bikeshare, provides bikes that can be rented throughout Raleigh. Rentals start at $2. Bikes can be rented through payment kiosks at the bike stations, the Cardinal Bikeshare website, or the BikeRaleigh App.

Electric scooters can also be rented to explore Raleigh. Dockless E-Scooter rentals are available 6 am -11 pm daily. The easiest way to use the scooter rentals is by downloading the app.

By Car

Parking is available throughout downtown Raleigh. Street parking is free after 5pm on weekdays and on weekends. Rideshares such as Lyft and Uber are also available for traveling throughout Raleigh.
